On June, 30, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a Council to accept the topic "Collection and introduction of Vietnamese folklore in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province". Dr. La Mai Thi Gia - University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City is this topic’s manager. Attending the Council was Mr. Pham Quang Nhat - Director of Department of Science and Technology, Chairman of the Council.

Folklore of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is also a branch in the flow of folklore of the whole nation. It also contains its own nuances, reflecting the soul, personality, daily life and work of the inhabitants of the South in general and the homeland of the sea and islands in particular. The phenomenon of existence, change and development of folklore have a significant influence. It impacts on today's society, especially in areas with a long tradition like Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Therefore, the study of Vietnamese folklore in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is an urgent task in order to preserve the rustic and traditional beauties that are gradually disappearing by the transformation of rural society under the effects of industrialization and modernization.

Over the time of implementation, the research team has completed the task "Collection of Vietnamese folklore from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province" with nearly 500 A4 pages with more than 2,571 works of two types of folk rhyme and folk prose. In which, 10 genres has been selected, edited and compiled from field collections of nearly 9,000 units in two batches.

The topic also outlines in detail the typical appearance, content characteristics and art forms of genres in the folklore treasure of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. The topic proposes solutions to apply local folklore teaching in schools, applications in tourism and cultural and festival activities, folk beliefs, and community activities in the locality. In addition, solutions for storing and using collected materials as well as the research results have been carried out. The topic also provide data and initial overview of local folklore for future general studies on national folklore.

With the achieved results, the council agreed to accept the topic. However, it is necessary to edit and complete the topic according to the comments of the council’s members.
