Nation’s first stem cell bank inaugurated

VietNamNet Bridge - Mekostem, Vietnam’s first stem cell bank, opened  in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb. 15, offering services of cell collection, analysis and separation, and preservation of stem cells obtained from umbilical cord blood and umbilical membrane.

The newly-founded bank got initial investment of 10 billion VND from the Mekophar Pharmaceutical-Chemical Joint Stock Company and financial assistance of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

It applies the stem cell isolation technology of the Singaporean CellResearch Corporation for the treatment of serious diseases and disorders.
The bank will soon do researches to improve the quality of stem cell preservation, develop stem cells into specialised cells and use stem cell models to test effects of medicines.
