The first prize is worth VND 15 million (US $900), a second prize worth VND 10 million, a third prize worth VND 7 million, and consolation prize of VND 3 million.

The subjects to the awards are individuals and organizations, whose inventions are registered before December 31 of the previous year. Patents granted by Vietnam and other countries must have at least five years in effect as of December 31 of the previous year.

The candidates must be the ones who are named in the patents or the owners of the patents. They also have to live or work in HCM City and they are using the inventions in HCM City.

Inventions must meet three standards to win the award: being outstanding for technology and economic effects, having commercial potential in at least three upcoming years, and having at least 90 points.

There will be two rounds of consideration. The jury will include technological and legal experts who are appointed in advance, and ten commercial and investment experts.
