VN, Indonesia look to strategic partnership

Việt Nam and Indonesia agreed to advance bilateral ties to the strategic partnership for the interest of the two people, for peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity in the region and the world.

The agreement was reached during the talks between visiting PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta on September 14.

During the talks, the two leaders exchanged information on the outstanding points achieved in the socio-economic development and foreign policy by respective country .

The Indonesian President congratulated Việt Nam on the success of the 11th National Party Congress and the election of the 13th National Assembly. 

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono lauded the drastic and timely policies of Việt Nam in favor of macro-economic stability, inflation curbing and social welfare.

Meanwhile, PM Dũng applauded Indonesia for promply surmounting the global economic crisis, consecutive natural disasters, and successfully convening the 18th ASEAN Summit in May in Jakarta, the 44th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and related meetings in July, 2011.

Regarding the bilateral teis, the two leaders agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of politics, security, national defense, economic-trade-investment, and agriculture; and at the same time, strive to expand cooperation into other potential cooperation areas such as education and training, healthcare, information and communication, tourism, sports, culture, and others.

The two Leaders also commended the effectiveness of the Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and agreed to establish the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation at the Foreign Ministerial level.

The two sides also tapped cooperation at international and regional forums, including the issues in the East Sea, the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards the adoption of a regional Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea.  

Right after the talks, PM Dũng and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono witnessed the signing ceremony of the Việt Nam-Indonesia Plan of Action for the 2012-2015 period and the Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Activities to Enhance Bilateral Communications and Consultations among the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
