The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 6 to announce winners of the third Natural Resources and Environment Journalism Contest.

According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, the contest has been held by the MoNRE every two years to promote dissemination of information and raise public awareness of State management activities over natural resources and the environment.

It also aims to strengthen co-operation between the sector with relevant agencies, the mass media and the community, while further renovating and enhancing information quality and dissemination in the field of natural resources and environmental protection.

Since this year’s launch, the organisers have received a range of press works from reporters and journalists across the country. They then selected 119 works of printed media, 24 radio works, ten TV programmes and 39 works from online newspapers for the final round.

The jury recommended the minister of Natural Resources and Environment to sign a decision to grant the award to 27 individuals and groups of authors with the most outstanding works in the above four categories (printed newspapers, radio, TV and digital media).

The A prize – the highest one – belonged to author Thu Suong from Nguoi Lao Dong (worker) Newspaper for a printed work on a road construction project to Cat Tien National Park. A report on the Vietnamese delegations activities at COP21 by the Vietnam Television also won the A prize in the TV category.

In the radio category, a work on the massive exploitation of natural resources by author Tran Sy Duc from Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) won the A prize. An online work on drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta and adaptation measures by a group of authors from Tuoi Tre (youth) newspaper was granted with the A prize.

A collective prize for press agencies submitting the most high-quality press works belonged to the VOV2 channel.
