Attending the meeting at the bridgehead of Ba Ria - Vung Tau has led the Department of Science and Technology, the relevant departments, institutions and science and technology enterprises in the province.

At the conference, Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh - Minister of Science and Technology reported achivements of science and technology sector in 2016 as well as weaknesses and limitations and proposed action plans in 2017. Accordingly, in 2016 the Ministry of Science and Technology well accomplished the task of assisting the Party and State in policy and strategy planning for socio-economic development as well as national defense and security. In detail, science and technology sector focused on the implementation of key tasks to increase productivity, quality and competitiveness of the economy, improve business environment and national competitiveness as well. Science and technology activities have been made more closely and directly to meet the local soci-economic development goal and shifted towards enhancing the application and effectiveness. Provincies and cities have focused on applying science and technology advances, in which developing multiple models of high-tech agriculture is one of the main priorities.

During the conference, representatives from several ministries, national agencies and provincies/cities suggested various solutuions to restructure the science and technology sector towards making enterprises into the core of the national innovation system; strengthening the technology absorptive capacity of enterprises; supporting enterprises  in the technology innovation, the productivity, quality and competitiveness improvement, and the active international integration. Solutions also included applying science and technology to agriculture development, developing high-tech agriculture, focusing on major export products; improving the quality and competitiveness of national products and goods in the value chain; enhancing efficiency of intellectual property, standardization, metrology and quality control...

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc strongly stressed the important role of science and techonology in contributing to socio-economic development as well as national security and defense of Vietnam. He also praised and recognized the efforts of science and technology sector in building and developing the country. Mr Phuc stated that ministries, national agencies and provinces/cities should consider investing more practically and effectively in science and technology;  strengthening state management in the field of science and technology; improving the capacity of the government to direct and promote the role of science and technology; creating incentive policies to attract and nurture talented individuals to participate in scientific and technological innovation researches; Having a clearer formulation of science and technology applications; scientific and technological researches must be closely linked to the needs of the market and promote the strengths of Vietnam. Stepping up international cooperation in the field of science and technology and promoting researches in enterprises as well as applying science and technology advances in production and business.
