Workshop on the Scheme of Innovation and Start-up Center in BR-VT Province

In the afternoon of November 14, the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Provincial College of Technology held a workshop on the Scheme of establishing BR-VT Innovation and Start-up Center. Attending the workshop were Mr. Mai Thanh Quang - Director of Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Ngo Xuan Khoat - Vice Rector of the Provincial College of Technology, Mr. Tran Le Quan Ngoc - Expert of Singapore Production Technology Research Institute (SIMTECH), Mr. Nguyen Hoa Cuong - Director of National Innovation Center - Ministry of Planning and Investment and representatives of leaders of departments, boards, branches, provinces, universities, volleges, other organizations that support for start-up inside and outside the province.

The goal of the Scheme is to support innovation activities in enterprises to increase labor productivity, improve the competitiveness of the economy in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0. Additionally, it contributes to attracting high quality human resources, creating jobs, increasing  budget revenues. These factors plays important roles to promote the development of the province's innovation ecosystem. Moreover, it supports incubating and developing innovative start-up projects from international scientists, experts, lecturers, students, and start-ups, increasing the quantity and quality of innovative start-ups in the province; it also connects centers and organisations that support innovation domestic and international as well as scientists, experts and organizations with scientific research, technological development with other enterprises to promote innovation activities associated with market demands. By 2025, the Scheme supports at least 500 businesses to carry out activities related to innovation and start-up in BR-VT province. The total investment of the project is about VND 250 billion from the provincial budget and is divided into phases for implementation, expected to be completed in 2023.

According to the draft, the name of the center is Ba Ria - Vung Tau Innovation Center (BIC), is a public science and technology service institute under the College of Technology BR-VT province. The Center operates under the mechanism of autonomy, is responsible for performing tasks and organizing the apparatus, payroll and finance according to the provisions of Decree No. 54/2016 / ND-CP of June 14, 2016 of the Government about the autonomy mechanism of public science and technology organizations.

At the seminar, delegates and experts shared their experiences in deploying a number of models of innovation start-up such as: National Center for Innovation (NIC); Center for Innovation at the Singapore Manufacturing Technology Research Institute (SIMTech); Incubation experience of high-tech businesses in  Ho Chi Minh city. Additionally, the delegates said that they would be willing to support, cooperate and share experiences for Ba Ria - Vung Tau Innovation Center  and innovation start-up businesses at BR-VT.
