World Cyber Games 2008 debuts in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – The 7th qualifier round of the World Cyber Games contest has been kicked off in Vietnam to choose the best gamers for the world final round in November 2008 in Cologne, Germany.

VietNamNet Bridge – The 7th qualifier round of the World Cyber Games contest has been kicked off in Vietnam to choose the best gamers for the world final round in November 2008 in Cologne, Germany.

The message of this year’s contest is Beyond the Games. Gamers will play individually in two games, namely FiFa Soccer and Star-craft, and play in teams in two games, Counter Strike and DOTA All Stars.

The final round for northern and central gamers will be held in Hanoi on July 12-13 and in Da Nang on July 20. The final round of the southern region will take place from July 25-27 at the Nguyen Du Sports House in HCM City.

Gamers can register for the competition on http://vn.worldcybergames.com or through email dangky@wcg.vn from June 17 to July 5 for the northern region, till July 13 for the central and the southern regions.

 

The competition is expected to attract over 2,000 Vietnamese gamers. The prize for the champion will be a trip to Cologne to take part in the world final round in November 2008. The best gamers will have chances to participate in the Asian Championship in Singapore in August and receive other prizes from the organising board. 

The Vietnam Olympic Committee recently admitted four computer games, including Counter-strike, to the official sports system of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games, which will be held in Vietnam next year. This event is a landmark for Vietnam’s E-sports.

Samsung is the major sponsor of the global World Cyber Games. In Vietnam, this competition is supported by Intel, CMS, Hoan Long Computer, Huetronics.
