Vietnam celebrates World Environment Day

Vietnam has spent one percent of its annual State budget for environmental protection, Deputy Chairwoman of the National Assembly said.

Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong made the statement at a meeting to mark the World Environment Day in southern Khanh Hoa province on June 5. She said Vietnam is among countries that are being affected by climate change and so the nation dedicated one percent of the total annual State budget for environmental protection.
Addressing the meeting, the UN Development Programme Country Director, Setsuko Yamazaki said
Vietnam should focus on raising public awareness of environmental protection, adapting its agriculture to severe weather conditions, building more effective and cleaner industry and finding measures to mitigate carbon use.
The meeting was co-organised by the
Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa province.
