Vietnam wins six medals at 49th Int’l Mathematics Olympiad

VietNamNet Bridge - All six Vietnamese contestants attending the 49th International Mathematics Olympic (IMO 49) won prizes, including two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

VietNamNet Bridge - All six Vietnamese contestants attending the 49th International Mathematics Olympic (IMO 49) won prizes, including two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
With 159 points,
Vietnam ranked 12th in the medals tally, dropping nine places compared to the previous contest.
The two gold medalists are Hoang Duc Y (34 points) and Le Ngoc Anh (32 points), both from Lam Son high school in Thanh Hoa province.
The two silver medals went to Do Thi Thu Thao (29 points) from Nguyen Trai high school in northern Hai Duong province and Nguyen Pham Dat (23 points) from
Hanoi Teacher Training University’s high school for gifted students.
In addition, 11th grader Dang Tran Tien Vinh from a high school for gifted students in
Ho Chi Minh City and Nguyen Trong Hoang from Vinh University’s high school both bagged bonze medals.
The IMO took place in
Madrid, Spain from July 10-22 with the participation of more than 535 candidates from 101 countries and territories around the world. At the end of the competition, the 267 contestants were awarded, 47 gold, 100 silver and 120 bronze medals.
China led this year’ contest with 217 points, five golds and one silver, followed by Russia, the Unites States, the Republic of Korea, Iran and Thailand.
The 50th IMO is scheduled to take place in
Germany from July 10-22, 2009.
