VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam marked its own characteristic at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after seven months joining the UNSC, especially during one month chairing the council, a diplomat said.

Permanent Foreign Vice Minister Pham Binh Minh made the affirmation at a press briefing in Hanoi on August 5, adding that Vietnam’s efforts at the UNSC have been highly appreciated by foreign countries.
Vietnam took part in nearly 240 official meetings, offered suggestions to all the UNSC documents and voted for the UNSC resolutions with its full responsibility.
Vietnam also fulfilled its post as president or vice president of some committees.
The country upheld the fundamental rules of the UN charters and international regulations, especially respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with responsibilities to care for and protect the legitimate interest of relevant parties to boost peaceful measures.
Vietnam attached importance to exchanging ideas with the UNSC membership and non-membership. The country also shared information with ASEAN, non-aligned countries as well as those in Africa and Middle-East to study their interests in order to propose suitable solutions.

Vietnam performed well while chairing of the UNSC in July, the diplomat said, especially in drafting the UNSC annual report and initiating the unofficial meeting to discuss the draft annual report.
In August,
Vietnam will continue to focus its efforts on cooperating with other countries to seek solutions for rising issues on the basis of the UN Charter, respecting the legitimate interest of all the countries for peace, cooperation and development.
