The 14 December 2009, the opening ceremony for Nuclear Safety Executive Workshop has been organized in Hanoi. This workshop that will run from Dec 14th to 18th, has been organized under the collaboration of Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) and United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US.NRC).

Workshop participants from Vietnam are the regulators and staff of VARANS, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, Department of Legislation, Ministry of Science and Technology. US.NRC delegation includes regulatory experts with Mr. Kirk Foggie as Head of delegation.

The Workshop will run for four and one half days. The first three and one half days will focus on development of regulatory capabilities. The topic to be discussed will be cover a wide range of issues related to organization, staffing and training of a regulatory agency, and development of a regulatory program. Workshop might bring together stakeholders with diverse interests, such as the regulatory agency, R&D Institute, the electricity utility companies and the other industry group.

Mr. Le Chi Dung, VARANS Deputy Director General, in his opening speech, said that this Workshop would provide Vietnam regulators and staffs with a great chance to learn lessons and experiences from US.NRC regulatory experts. This workshop is also one of the significant co-operation activities between VARANS and US.NRC.
