The government has awarded the state-owned Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway Development Joint Stock Co the contract to build the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Highway.
The 77.5-kilometer, six-lane highway, to cost some VND16 trillion (US$843.4 million), will link Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provinces.
It will link a beltway near Bien Hoa city with the road leading to Thi Vai-Cai Mep Port near Vung Tau.
BVEC’s main shareholders include the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation, Song Da Corp, and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam.
It began work on a VND3.2 trillion ($180 million) project to expand National Highway 51 that links the two provinces in May last year. It is scheduled to be finished within 30 months.
Large ports have become operational in Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau recently, and with rising demand for freight transport in industrial zones and urban areas, the need for highways is increasing quickly.
