Gov’t treasures business circle to ICT development

The Vietnamese Government appreciates the role of the business community in boosting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and hopes to witness closer cooperation between Vietnamese software enterprises and the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

PM Dũng held the point today in Hà Nội while hosting a reception to ASOCIO President Looi Kien Leong and the latter’s entourage who present in Việt Nam for the plenary conference of the ASOCIO.

 

The Government chief also applauded the conference themed “Cooperation between Governments and business community for ICT development,” adding that the Vietnamese Government always attaches much importance to the business circle which is playing a vital role in converting Việt Nam into an ICT power country. 

 

PM Dũng took the occasion to laud the coordination between Vietnamese software firms and ASOCIO and hoped for further practical linkages between the two sides.

 

For his part, President Looi Kien Leong evaluated that Việt Nam has recorded robust progress in ICT sector, especially through software exports.

 

The guest also expressed his goodwill to share experience of regional countries in formulating and implementing ICT development policies with Việt Nam.

 

In 2009, Việt Nam’s ICT industry grew by 20%, software revenue surged over 30% and one-forth of the population were Internet users.   

 

The plenary conference of the ASOCIO is held in Hà Nội and the northeastern province of Quảng Ninh on June 17-20.

 

ASOCIO comprises 21 members and seven guest members. 

 

ASOCIO’s members account for more than 10,000 ICT companies and boast for the ICT revenue of approximately US $300 billion in the region.

 

Joining ASOCIO in July 2002, the Việt Nam Software Association (VINASA) successfully connected the country’s ICT companies with the international community and helped them penetrate into a number of markets, especially Japan.
