The Government chief recently turned green light for Việt Nam to conduct the global project for ecosystem services funded by the Global Environment Fund via the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

The Government chief assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to work with the UNEP to finalize and ink the project documents with the donor.

This project targets to demonstrate how to best use the findings of ecosystem services assessments in making policies and decisions at various scales in four pilot countries, namely Chile, Trinidad and Tobago, Việt Nam, and South Africa.

Each individual country will develop its specific set of activities that take into account the particularities of national institutional and policy framework as well as its ecosystem.

Through these activities, the project provides an opportunity to generate targeted national and global benefits at significant levels including long-term conservation of species and habitat diversity, enhanced conservation of ecosystems, improved protection for species diversity, enhanced complicity and coverage of policy frameworks with ecosystem services approaches, strengthened habitat and ecosystem resilience, and development of an access to innovative biodiversity conservation financing instruments.
