The launching of official online map service called “Map World” by Chinese State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping on January 18, with China’s U-shaped line claim, has violated Việt Nam’s sovereignty, said Spokesperson of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Phương Nga.

Ms. Nga made the statement in response to the  correspondents’ question on Việt Nam’s reaction to China’s publication of the Map World.

The Chinese Bureau’s act “violates Việt Nam’s sovereignty over Hoàng Sa (Paracel) and Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes, violates sovereign right and national jurisdiction right over the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone of Việt Nam and other relating countries”, she said.

Moreover, the act “runs counter to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC)”, she added.

Việt Nam rejects the China’s act and requests China to promptly remove the wrong data in the above “Map World”, the Spokesperson said.
