Gov’t speeds up power projects

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải on March 12 presided over a meeting with the State Steering Committee of the General Electric Plan VI to speeding up construction and operation of power projects for socio-economic development.

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải highlighted the necessity of electrical infrastructure construction to meet the demand of production and daily life of people.

Mr. Hải asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to work with relevant ministries and agencies to update power plans in line with new circumstances, pour more investment in electricity hubs, speed up licensing process, and prioritize private investment projects.

The Deputy PM also requested his inferiors to take drastic measures to tackle slow projects in Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, and Cẩm Phả and punish infringements of bidders. 

The Ministry of Finance was assigned to propose solutions to financial problems relating to resettlement and site clearance. 

The MoIT reported that the planning and building of general mechanism and electricity balance have been implemented on schedule.

The National Power Development Project (General Electric Plan VI) has been assessed. Long-term plan on nuclear power plant development and construction project of the first nuclear power plant are underway.

New power plants have been put into operation and some old thermo-electricity ones have been repaired.

The MoIT also announced that the construction of some thermo-electricity plants such as Mông Dương I, Duyên Hải 3, and Thăng Long are expected to begin in 2011. Eight BOT projects have already selected investors and prepared for negotiation on investment contracts. In addition, three others are on bidding process./.
