On March 16, in Tan Thanh district, the Tan Cang- Saigon Corporation held the ceremony to inaugurate the Tan Cang-Cai Mep deepwater port. Mr.Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr.Nguyen Tuan Minh, Member of Central Party Committee, Provincial Secretary; Mr.Tran Minh Sanh, Provincial Chairman attended.

After 4 years of construction, the Tan Cang- Cai Mep deepwater port has completed and put into operation. The Tan Cang- Cai Mep port includes 900 meters of wharves, 60 ha of grounds. 4 forklift trucks and two 4,000 horsepower vessels, equipments… with total investment capital of VND 4,253 billion, among that, VND 2,905 billion is capital from the Tan Cang- Sai Gon Corporation.

The Tan Cang-Cai Mep port is the first deepwater port accommodate vessels transporting Vietnamese export to the US and Europe directly without transit via the third country. The travel time is shorten by 7-10 days. Since the port put into use, the port has welcomed 596 vessels, total capacity of goods through the port was 430,000 TEU, equal 5.7 million tons.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr.Hoang Trung Hai spoke highly of the Tan Cang- Saigon Corporation’s efforts to put into operation Tan Cang- Cai Mep port, open up a new development phase for deepwater container ports in Vietnam.
