KBC Advanced Technology Pte Ltd. agreed to cooperate with PVMC on strategies for maintenance, training, technology transfer and services in petrochemical and oil refining, while Mun Siong Engineering Limited will help with maintenance and repair services in line with the agreements struck in Vung Tau on Saturday.

Simon Angell, KBC vice president for business development in Asia, told the Daily after he signed the agreement with Cao Dinh Tam, director of PVMC in the south (PVMC Southern), that consulting was part of the cooperation with the local company and marked KBC’s further involvement in Vietnam’s oil and gas industry.

Angell said KBC had worked with Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) on this State-owned group projects over the past years.

Chris Lim Choon Wah, executive director of Mun Siong, said the company was exploring onshore maintenance and engineering services in the Vietnamese market through the partnership with PVMC.

Lim Choon Wah told the Daily that Mun Siong was able to help PVMC strategize maintenance and implementation plans for projects in Vietnam. “We will bring in new technology, management systems as well as certain specialized equipment.”

PVMC executives said the demand for oil and gas structure maintenance and repair was huge in Vietnam, and that was why PetroVietnam established PVMC in 2009 to capitalize the business opportunity and to maintain plants of the group in smooth operation.

PetroVietnam considered maintenance and repair of oil and gas plants was one of the core and important revenue-generating parts of its services scope. Therefore, the group transformed PVMC from a maintenance and repair unit of PetroVietnam in charge of small-scaled oil refining and petrochemical facilities in Dung Quat Refinery in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Tran Minh Tuan, board chairman of PVMC, said PVMC had expanded presence nationwide and participated in many projects in different regions. The company is now responsible for maintenance and repair for oil refining, petrochemical, ethanol and fertilizer plants in Dung Quat, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ca Mau, Binh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces.

PVMC announced opening of its southern center before it signed cooperation deals with local and foreign companies, and plans a similar center in the north in order to provide clients with services in the oil and gas sector as well as chemical, energy and other industries throughout the country.
