Three giant mobile phone companies – Viet Nam Comm, Viet Nam Internet and IT and Viet Nam Electronics – will share the stage at a triple expo to be held in Ha Noi at the Viet Nam Exhibition and Fair Centre on November 16-19.

Three giant mobile phone companies – Viet Nam Comm, Viet Nam Internet and IT and Viet Nam Electronics – will share the stage at a triple expo to be held in Ha Noi at the Viet Nam Exhibition and Fair Centre on November 16-19.

The event was announced by Bui Quoc Viet, director of information and public relations for Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group at a press conference early this week.

Viet said the triple exposition was timely. After three years of operation, Viet Nam had more than eight million 3G subscribers (3G service refers to third generation mobile telecommunications. It allows users to receive multi-media applications, including internet).

Viet added that there was network coverage of 93.68 per cent of the country. He said there was ample opportunity for 3G content services providers to develop attractive contents with entertainment, market news and information to end-users.

The assistant general manager of the Hong Kong Adsale Exhibition Service, Celine To, said, "With the huge support and commitment of the Viet Nam Government in developing telecom and IT industries in the next 10 years, we are glad to see that 3G use and the number of mobile subscribers is growing fast – and high in percentage terms – when compared to other countries."

"It is ironic that the strong dedication of the Government to developing hi-tech parks as an Asian Silicon Valley encouraged the capital market to attract foreign direct investment in these areas. Thus it stimulates the growth of the whole telecom and IT industries.

"Meanwhile, globalisation also accelerates the urge for the latest enterprise solutions by industry players and the pursuit of e-entertainment and social media connection by end-users."

To said it was expected that the three events in one would gather ICT technologies and equipment from more than 160 international and local exhibitors, including VNPT, MobiFone, Vinaphone, Orange France Telecom, Ericsson, Hitachi Cable, Huawei, Rosen-berger and ZTE.

"Concurrent with the exhibition, a high-level summit will be held for industry players to discuss hot issues," To said.

Major symposium themes, among many, included:

– Current Development of ICT in Government, Health, Education and Community Service Sectors

– Opportunities and Challenges for 4G Network in Viet Nam

– ICT Application for Enterprises and Case Studies on Value-added Services and Social Networks.

According to International Telecommunication Union statistics, Viet Nam is ranked eighth on the density of mobile subscribers in the world. This helps Viet Nam progress faster than other developing countries which have an average coverage of 70 per cent. Its 114 per cent growth rate far exceeds that of developed countries.

This demonstrated a huge market potential in the Viet Nam market, Celin said.

Former information and communications minister Le Doan Hop has said 2013 would be the appropriate time to implement the 4G network, and not later than 2015. This statement gave a clear indication that the telecommunication industry in Viet Nam was about to undergo great change and step into a new era.

On the other hand, the Viet Nam Government is committed to developing more software parks in the next 10 years, such as the debut of Quang Trung Software City. It offers many advantages for foreign content and global software companies to set up offices in such Software Cities.

The IT industry is expected to be Viet Nam's leading economic sector by 2020, contributing up to 8-10 per cent of GDP. Viet Nam is then expected to be among the world's top 10 software dev-elopers.

To cope with the demand of exploring new IT technology and enterprises solutions, the exhibition organisers have highlighted exhibit themes, including Managed Services, Enterprise/Industry Solution, Digital Advertising and Marketing and Information Security.

Moreover, in pursuit of maximum participation effectiveness for exhibitors, the organisers will provide free on-site business consultancy services.

Exhibitors can discuss with professional consultants the market potential for their products or services, how to further expand their market share and how to build relationships with key potential business partners.

The triple expo is expected to contribute to the fast-growth of ICT and electronics industries in Viet Nam.
