On 4 November 2011, at the Headquarters of the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS), Dr Le Dinh Tien - Vice Minister of Science and Technology, Director General of VARANS received Gesellschaft für Reaktor – und Anlagensicherheit mbH (GRS) delegation from Germany.
At the receipt, GRS representative introduced its functions, tasks as well as achievements which contribute to protecting man and the environment from the technical hazards and risk involved in facilities. GRS activities are mainly focused on the area of nuclear safety and waste management. With expectation to establish relationship with organizations of Vietnam, GRS presented cooperation plan with VARRANS on nuclear safety. In the morning of the same day, GRS signed the MOU on research cooperation in final repository of high – level radioactive waste with the Center for Nuclear Techniques in HoChiMinh city, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute.
Director General appreciated cooperation plan of GRS with related organizations of Vietnam and stressed, in the context that Vietnam is preparing activities in order to start soon construction its first nuclear power plant, VARANS as the regulatory body of Vietnam in the field of atomic energy, focus on completion of legal framework, human resources development and learning and exchanging experience with other countries.
Two parties discussed and agreed detailed cooperation activities in the next time.
