In 2011, Con Dao district welcomed 12,508 international visitors, a rise of 229.7% over 2010. In particular, the event that famous Hollywood stars - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt - chose Con Dao to stay for their convalescence elevates attraction of Con Dao tourism. BRING RESOLUTION TO LIFE Mr. Truong Hoang Phuc, Con Dao district party committee secretary, said despite the advantage of the natural landscape and historical system, without the proper orientation to promote that value, Con Dao cannot be like today. He affirmed the Resolution No. 05 of the Provincial Party Committee on tourism economic development to 2010 and a vision to 2015 was an important orientation for Con Dao to invest and exploit the tourism potentials. Right after the Resolution 05 was adopted, Con Dao district set up the action program No. 24, of which defines the point of development is to create favorable conditions to attract investment in advanced forms of tourism, suit trend of the international tourism market; tourism development is associated with conservation and renovation of revolution history, raise value of Con Dao national park, build Con Dao to be worthy of the tourist centers of the province and the country. From the above point of view, Con Dao district’s leaders identified infrastructure must come first. Since 2009, the systems of roads, electricity, water, telecommunication ...were invested and gradually completed. From 2010 to now, nature images of Con Dao has been consecutively appeared on world-well-known TV channels and magazines. Especially, in 2011, Con Dao had a bumper of international visitors, with 12,508 participants, an increase of 229.7% as compared with 2010 (reaching 3,793 respectively), revenue reached VND45.5 billion, of which most were American, French and English. Besides, the investment projects on Con Dao are also increasing, which appear more and more resorts, luxury convalescence resorts with large invested capital. And many projects have been preparing investment. Furthermore, quality of officers, staff at accommodations, sightseeing places in the district have been increasingly improved. TOURISM INCENTIVE In 2011, the adjusted master plan on Con Dao construction plan to 2030 and the master plan for socio- economic development of Con Dao district to 2020, and vision to 2030 had been approved. The contents of the planning above defines Con Dao will become a high-quality services – tourism economic zone, including priority to the development of marine, ecology, high-rank outdoor recreation and historical – culrural, inherited resorts. To achieve the above objectives, Con Dao district are pushing the approval of detailed construction plan of functional subdivisions like Co Ong, Ben Dam and the central areas; planning of Con Dao National Park; planning adjustment of conservation, embellishment and promoting value of the revolutionary history and encouraging investors to invest in high-end products.
