The Lyrids meteor shower can be
observed in Vietnam from April 15 to 26, VnExpress quoted an astronomer as
saying on Wednesday.
It will peak on April 21 with
some 20 meteors every hour until the next morning, Nguyen Duc Phuong of the
Vietnam Association of Astronomy – Cosmography said.
“The meteor will occur at the
beginning of a lunar month when there is no moonlight, which is good for
observing astronomical phenomena,” he added.
Experts said though Lyrids is not
the strongest of annual meteor showers, it is interesting for two reasons: its
history – being first observed at least 2,600 years ago -- and its
unexplainable surge, sometimes with an outburst of some 100 meteors per hour.
