Participants in the Training course are regulatory staff, inspectors and relevant staff from VARANS, Departments of Science and Technology of: Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hai Phong, Hue, Khanh Hoa, Binh Duong, Can Tho and Lam Dong. In the opening remark, DDG Dang Thanh Luong said, inspection is one of the key activities in state management on radiation and nuclear safety. One aspect of ensuring radioactive sources security is verifying compliance with regulatory requirements not only in terms of safety but also security. He stressed, this training course is a good opportunity for learning, exchanging information and sharing experience with US experts as well as between participants on radioactive source inspection. The training course is designed for 4 days (from 15 to 10/1) with lectures on inspection activities/process; inspection methods: document review, observation, interview and performance testing; introduction of physical protection system; inspection planning; inspection conducting and post-inspection activities. Regulatory overview on ensuring the security of radioactive source was presented by VARANS. Participants were divided into groups to discuss and do exercises following inspection scenarios, documenting inspection results and report.
Training course for radioactive source security inspectors
On 15 January 2013, Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) in collaboration with the National Nuclear Security Administration of US. Department of Energy (US.DoE/NNSA) opened Training course for radioactive source security inspectors. Deputy Director General of VARANS Dang Thanh Luong came to attend and addressed opening speech.
