The documents were signed on July 4 between Vietnam’s Radio Frequency Directorate (RFD) and India’s the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) and between the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The signing took place during a working visit to India by a Vietnamese delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications led by its Minister Nguyen Bac Son at the invitation of Indian Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Kapil Sibal.
During talks with Son, Sibal said India considers Vietnam as an important partner in Southeast Asia.
He emphasised that the signing of the two MoUs this time will create a foundation for the two business communities to strengthen cooperation.
Sibal revealed that ICT is a driving force behind India’s socio-economic development.
ICT exports have already hit US$80 billion and are expected to reach US$300 billion by 2020. India ranks second in the world in terms of phone services supply and third in terms of Internet users, he noted.
He proposed that Vietnam set up a joint venture with its Indian partners.
For his part, Son spoke highly of recent cooperative relations between the two countries in general and the two ministries in particular.
He said his visit aims to accelerate the implementation of the signed agreements, and promote the strategic partnership established in 2007.
The two ministers proposed establishing a joint committee on technology, information and post, as well as a framework for implementation of cooperative agreements.
Earlier on July 3, the Vietnamese delegation visited the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Tata Consultancy Services.
