Agree relocation of Vung Tau Airport
Currently, Vung Tau airport is mainly used for different types of helicopters serving the oil and gas services and a number of military tasks. The expansion of Vung Tau airport for receipt of fixed wing airplanes meets with difficulties because of the lack of land fund.

With the existing location, most area in the center of Vung Tau city is in the restricted airspace of Vung Tau airport. Besides, Vung Tau Airport also divides the traffic network of the city. With strong development in the recent time, Vung Tau Airport has been affecting considerably the construction planning and development of the transport network connecting areas of the city. Therefore, construction of a new and large-scale airport at Go Gang to replace the existing Vung Tau airport is necessary, in order to motivate the socio - economic development of the province and ensure the national defense - security in the new situation.

According to Mr.Nguyen Dinh Toan, Deputy Minister of the Construction Ministry, the relocation of the existing Vung Tau airport and planning of a new airport at Go Gang is appropriate for the planning of airport development until 2020, the regional planning of Ho Chi Minh city and the general construction planning of Vung Tau City towards 2020 which was approved by the Prime Minister.

New driving force for development

According to the preliminary plan of the Department of Transport in collaboration with the ministries and industries concerned, the new airport at Go Gang has an area of nearly 300ha. This is the civil and military airport, with a runway length of 2000m, 3C standard grade  in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the level-II military airport. The airport at Go Gang has a design capacity of 100,000 passengers / year and 500,000 tons of cargo / year, mainly exploitation of helicopters and small fixed wing airplanes for the purposes of tourism, petroleum combining military. It is expected that upon completion, the new airport at Go Gang will have flights to Con Dao, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Vinh, Ha Noi, Hai Phong, and Dien Bien…

Mr. Vu Ngoc Thao - Director of the Department of Transport – said, “With the area located next to the Long Son oil and gas industrial zone, a few dozen kilometers far away from concentrated industrial parks, international seaport system, logistic services area and famous resorts of the province, the new airport will be a breakthrough for the socio-economic development of the province and ensure the national defense - security in the new situation. When completed, the airport at Go Gang will play an important role for BR-VT’s development, expansion of urban space, economic space, attraction of more investors and tourists; as well as satisfy the needs of travel for people of BR-VT and neighboring provinces, cities such as Dong Nai, Binh Thuan…”.
