Mr. Menon affirmed that India always respects the relationship with Viet Nam and regards it crucial in its “Look East Policy” in the new period. The ties in national security and defense form the pillars of the strategic partnership between Viet Nam and India.

He said he hopes that the two sides will expand the cooperation to other fields such as network security, information security, and aerospace, including the establishment of cooperation between Indian National Security Council and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.

India’s Look East Policy supports the central role of ASEAN and shows the country’s positive and effective contributions to ASEAN in establishing its own community, narrowing the development gap, enhancing capacity, strengthening connectivity and realizing the Initiative for ASEAN Integration and Greater Mekong Sub-region, said Minister Tran Dai Quang.

He lauded India’s standpoint on the East Sea and its support for ASEAN’s Six Points Principles on the East Sea, as well as the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and negotiations for the formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea(COC).

Viet Nam hailed India’ for providing an Official Development Assistance (ODA) worth US$24.8 million for Viet Nam to upgrade Dien Bien-Tay Trang Highway, part of an expressway linking India, Myanmar, Laos, Viet Nam and Cambodia, Mr. Quang noted.

Earlier, Minister Quang held a working session with Director General of the National Security Guard Arvind Ranjan.
