HCM City hosts international telecoms expo

The 15th International Telecoms and Information Technology (Viet Nam Telecoms 2013) exhibition in HCM City is displaying the latest telecommunication technologies and services to local companies and customers.

"Attendees can see and meet famous producers," said Le Nam Thang, deputy minister of Information and Communications, while opening the exhibition yesterday, Nov 20.

The four-day event, held in the 6,000-square metre hall of the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in District 7 attracted the participation of 200 local and international companies from 13 countries and territories, including India, mainland China, Singapore and Taiwan.

This exhibition not only focuses on enterprises but also its customers, and offers an ideal platform for technology suppliers to share the latest market trends, state-of-art devices and services to potential customers.

Viettel has introduced technology with benefits for daily life and their own research and development activities, with more than 1,000 software programmers and hundreds of engineers.

Products made by Viettel include software, USB 3G, mobile phones, tablets, all-in-one PCs, tsunami-warning equipment, and military radio telephones.

The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) focuses on customers with different services for mobile phones like entertainment and television.

VNPT Technology has introduced the first Vietnamese-made smart phone VIVAS Lotus, and a multi-function entertainment platform called SmartBox that can make TV smarter by accessing internet and displaying films.

"Work smart will bring a smarter life" is the slogan for a 3G testing corner with displays of smartphones and tablets and special promotions.

At the Saigon Tourist Cable Television Company (SCTV), visitors will have a chance to enjoy cable TV services with 30 high-definition channels with high-speed internet.

SCTV also is offering cheap FONE services and video-on-demand.

A display of telephone products that have appeared in Viet Nam over the years and some worth as much as VND2 billion (US494,000) are also featured.

Local and international experts will discuss over the top (OTT) services and its impact on traditional telecommunication services, development trends and policies.

Fifteen reports to be delivered at the seminar will focus on OTT trends and the development of mobile-based applications.

Policies, strategies and development for the local telecommunications market will also be discussed.

At the exhibition, there is a Trade Promotion Display for Vietnamese Information Technology's Services and Products to promote local brand names with foreign partners, as well as provide information for customers about local products.
