The Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) on Sunday kicked off a US$1.3 billion Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plant in the central province of Binh Thuan.

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai highly spoke of the construction of Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plant as Viet Nam’s power demand is rising sharply and the country is likely to face with power shortage in the 2017-2019 period.

The leader also regarded the project as a new development of the domestic power sector as Viet Nam designed the large-scale coal-fired thermal power plant.

Mr. Hai also hailed the contributions of investors, the local authorities, Doossan (RoK) and Mitsubishi bidders. He hoped that the relevant sides would cooperate closely to ensure quality, labor safety and fulfil commitments.

The 1,200 megawatt (MW) plant is expected to generate 7.2 billion kWh or 5% of the country’s total power output and ease the shortage of electricity in southern Viet Nam .

As scheduled, the first turbine will join the national grid in 2017 and the second in 2018./.
