Annually, people who work in the Intellectual property field look forward to celebrating the International Intellectual Property Day 26 April (Stockholm Convention 1967, became effective as from 26/4/1970)
Intelletual property has played an important role in socio-economic development in countries and became a general concern over the world. For developed countries having high knowledge economy, intellectual property activites always are respected and concerned for ages. However, intellectual property is still a new concept in developing countries.
In Vietnam, since the country were independent, although its economy and science and technology field had to face with many difficulties and insufficient, we have still put more effort into intellectual property field by participating in WIPO as a member very early (on 02/6/1976); signing many bilateral and multilateral Convention, treaties and agreements about intellectual property such as: Paris Convention; Bern Convention; UPOV Convention; Patent Law Treaty and so on…
Beside that, we also take advantages of the cooperation relationship and assistance from other countries such as: Japan, Europe Union, United State, Korea, Thailand, Australia, ect…to improve Intellectual Property activities and this has brough more possitive results.
In addition, Vietnam also has established and improved the legal document systems about intellectual property, particularly in the period of joining and becoming the 105th member of WTO. This has proved that Vietnam had best effort in order to meet the general requirement of globalisation progress. In upcoming years, Vietnam will continue paricipating in Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement as a formal member.
With both opportunities and challenges in deeper and wider international integration period, we need to take available advantages in country as well as court the assistance from outside in order to elavate intellectual property activities in Vietnam equal to other countries; help Vietnam to meet the requirement of international integration.
Before the event celebrating international intellectual property day on 26/4/2014, all people working in intelletual property field hope those activities related to intelletual property in all countries over the world will take place actively and continue developing; contributing to the world as well as nations more achivements, in order to bring economic benefits for human and serve the demand of high living standard of people.
In order to do these tasks, each nation, organisation, individual and enterpise need to:
- Improve awareness about the effect of patents, copyright, label, industrial design, ect…on daily life.
- Strengthen knowledge on the role of copyright protection in creative motivation inovation;
- Honour creative activities and results of inventors that contribute to the socio-economic development.
- Encourage and respect intellectual property rights
These are the targets that Intellectual property organisation had determined.
