Seminar on improving competitiveness index at provincial grade

On 23/9, 2014 Ba Ria - Vung Tau People's Committee (BR-VT) held a "Seminar on improving competitiveness index at provincial grade (PCI)" at Provincial Convention Center. Attending the seminar were Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Le - Director of BR-VT Department for Planning and Investment BR-VT; Mr. Dau Anh Tuan - Head of Legal Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - member of PCI index research team; Pham Chi Lan - Senior Economic Specialist - member of PCI index research team; and delegates are leaders of Bureau Party Committee, People's Commitee.

Purpose of the seminar is to provide specific information on content of each PCI index for Departments, sectors and People’s Committee of districts, cities to understand and implement with function and mission of their units; besides, share good experiences of other localities, through which continue to build a plan to improve PCI index in the province until 2016.

 

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Le – Director of BR-VT Department for Planning and Investment said PCI is implemented by VCCI and USAID/VNCI.PCI is built to evaluate business environment, economic operation quality and effort to improve administrative procedures of provinces, through which promote development of private economy. Result is that PCI in recent years is ranked in good group compared to the whole country. However, in 2012 and 2013, PCI of Ba Ria-Vung Tau reduced and ranked at fair group, specifically, in 2011 BR-VT is ranked at 6/63 provinces; in 2012 ranked at 21/63 provinces, reduced 15 grades compared to 2011; in 2013 ranked at 39/63 provinces, reduced 18 grades compared to 2012. To improve PCI of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the province will build long-term plan until 2016, with purpose to take PCI of BR – VT to be back in good group of the country and to be trusted a destination towards enterprises and investors.  

 

At the seminar, Ms. Pham Chi Lan – Member of PCI research group presented a subject “Improve competitiveness competence of economy and locality” and Mr. Dau Anh Tuan – Member of PCI research group presented PCI 2013” to help the Province to analyze and evaluate component indexes of PCI BR-VT, identify weak positions to improve, as well as introduce experiences and good models from other localities in order to improve business investment environment, support the Province to build planning to improve PCI until 2016.

 

Participating in the seminar, delegates actively discussed and proposed measures to help the Province to improve PCI strongly in coming time.
