On March 6th 2015, The 5th The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province held a Contest in celebration of the Vietnam Metrology Day 20/1 at the directorate’s office. Mr. Vuong Quang Can, Deputy Director of Ba Ria Vung Tau Department of Science and Technology started off the Contest by his opening speech. This year, there are five competing teams including The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Tre, Tay Ninh, Ninh Thuan and Ba Ria Vung Tau province. Several other directorates such as those of Dong Nai, Khanh Hoa, Long An, Dong Thap and Kien Giang also joined the celebration as guests.

The Contest between five teams happened in a enthusiastic atmosphere. It was divided in two parts. The first part was a test of teams’ knowledge of metrology control, certification, calibration and testing;  Technical Barriers to Trade TBT; and administrative general. The second part was a situation question game in which questions was prepared by participating teams. Each team contributed two questions to the pool and had to answer two questions from other teams.

The teams participated enthusiastically in the contest not only to win but also to learn and exchange ideas with others. The contest concluded with the First prize awarded to The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Ben Tre province, the Second and Third Prize awarded to the directorate of Ninh Thuan and Ba Ria Vung Tau.

The contest’s questions and answers emphasized the significance of metrology to all spheres including production, life, research, security and defense and the role of  law observance of metrology in violation prevention and fairness in society. The contest also gave a great opportunities for officers of directorates to meet, learn and share with others their experiences in organizing and managing activities in standards, metrology and quality field such as testing, inspection and calibration.

The next year’s contest in celebration of Vietnam Metrology Day will be hold in Ho Chi Minh City.
