On December 12, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province Department
of Science and Technology held a seminar “Nanotechnology and its applications”.
Attending the seminar
were over 100 representatives from the relevant departments, People's
Committees of districts and cities in the province, representatives of
organizations and businesses, associations, cooperatives and farmers in the
province.
The workshop aimed at
introducing research achievements of nanotechnology applications in production
and daily life, promoting commercialization of research results, connecting
technology market and accelerate the application of technological advances in
production and life and contributing to the socio-economic development of Ba
Ria – Vung Tau province.
At the opening
remarks, Mr. Mai Thanh Quang, Director of the Department of Science and
Technology stated that the seminar "Nanotechnology and its applications"
was part of the provincial Party Committee’s action plan on the development of
science and technology in global integration context. The plan defined the
priority objectives of developing science and technology as promoting
application of technological advances in economic activities and communities to
meet practical need of the socio-economic development of the province.
Nanotechnology is the
technology related to the design, analysis, fabrication and application of
structures, devices and systems by controlling shape, size and material of the
particles of scale from 1 to 100 nanometers. Nanotechnology is a nascent but
fast-growing industry which has recorded an increasing number of scientific
papers and patents of inventions, as well as a growing number of companies
related to nanotechnology and nanoscience in recent years.
Similar to many
countries, Vietnam has set up a goal to develop researches in nanotechnology
and promote its applications not only in economic activities but also in the
development of related fields such as information technology and biotechnology.
Seven presentations
were brought to the seminar by experts in the Nano field. Topics included: Nano
Fertilizer as a specific functional fertilizer, Applications of Nano valent
iron in the safe treatment of water and waste and treatment, Applications of Nano
silver in agricultural, Applications of Nano researches in biomedical and
agricultural of the Institute of Biotechnology and Environment (The University
of Central Highlands), Key achievements and development plan of the nano R&D
lab in Saigon Hi-Tech Park. One of the most asked questions by the participants
was the problems relating to plant protection products and fertilizers that adopted
advances of nanotechnology.
Participants were also introduced to the research results of nanotechnology applications in specific sectors such as agriculture, waste water treatment, health care, food preservation and other fields. The workshop has successfully brought in opportunities for cooperation, innovation and technology transfer in Nano field in the province.
