The Fifth Congress of Journalists Association of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province

In two days (10-11/3), the Association of Journalists of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (BR-VT) held the Fifth Congress for the 2016-2020 term. The Congress saw the presence of Mr. Nguyen Be - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Thanh Dung - Vice Chairman of the Provencal People’s Committee;

In two days (10-11/3), the Association of Journalists of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (BR-VT) held the Fifth Congress for the 2016-2020 term. The Congress saw the presence of Mr. Nguyen Be - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Thanh Dung - Vice Chairman of the Provencal People’s Committee; Mr. Bui Thanh Nghia - Chairman of Provincial Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front and unit leader of the provincial Party Committee; representatives of departments, agencies, associations, enterprises, Association of Journalists of other Eastern provinces of the South and all members of Ba Ria – Vung Tau journalists Association.

The theme of the fifth Congress of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province journalists Association was “Unity, continued innovation, improved quality and performance". The congress reviewed and summarized the activities of the Association during the past 5 years (2010-2015) and approved the goal and main tasks of the Association in the term 2016 – 2020.

As reported at the Congress, in the past 5 years, BR-VT press has achieved significant improvement in all aspects. To date, the province has a full range of media types, from print, radio, newspapers to television and online newspapers ... with high number of audiences and readers. Press agencies have improved quality continuously by providing innovative contents and forms to meet ever growing demand of locals. Press of BR-VT’s role is promoted as a major information channel of local politics, economics, cultural and social value, security and defense, serving as the voice of the party, government, of people in the province.

The fifth Ba Ria – Vung Tau Journalists Association Congress also approved its goals and main tasks during the 2016-2020 term, with these activities in focus: extensive communication of the Party's resolutions and State laws and policies; achievements of economic – social activities; provincial, regional and national security and defense to strengthen national unity and societal consensus; the importance of discovery and encouragement of new ideas and role models; active fights against corruption, bureaucracy, wastefulness and negatives; effective rebuttal of wrongful and hostile information about Party and governments; admitting new members and gathering and uniting media professionals; strong organizational improvement of BR-VT province Journalists Association; participating in the planning of journalism system and human resources of the province; reviews of governmental policies; improving benefit and protecting rights of members; and constantly improving thematic journalism tournaments of the province to  encourage journalists and media collaborators to improve the quality of the media works.

Congress elected the executive board of the fifth Ba Ria – Vung Tau Journalists Association of the 2016-2020 term, including 11 members. Mr. Phan Duc Hien, Provincial Commissioner, Member of Central Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Editor-in-chief of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau News was elected as Chairman of the Association. Mr. Truong Duc Nghia, Head of Secretariat of Publication Division of Ba Ria - Vung Tau News was elected as the new Active Vice Chairman; Luu Quang Kha, deputy director of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Radio and Television was elected as Vice Chairman.

At the congress, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 03 collectives and 06 individuals who have made outstanding achievements in the operation of the provincial Journalists Association of the 2010-2015 term; the Provincial Journalists Association presented certificates of merit to 08 members for outstanding achievements in the work of the Association and 5-year journalism activities during the period 2010-2015.
