The 2015 Ba Ria – Vung Tau Science and Technology Idea Contest Awards Ceremony

On May 6th, at the Provincial Convention Center Meeting Hall, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province held a ceremony to conclude and award winners of the Contest “2015 Science and Technology Idea Contest of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province" – the first one of its kind in the province as well as in the country. The Ceremony saw the presence of Mr. Le Tuan Quoc - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Mai Thanh Quang - Director of the Department of Science and Technology and representatives of provincial departments.

This is the first time that Ba Ria - Vung Tau province hosts a science – technology contest with the scale being significant in terms of participants and contest areas. The contest aims to find ideas that can address practical issues of the province to promote the social and economic development and to ensure national defense and security. The competition has attracted a wide participation from the public. After nearly a year of launching the contest, the Organizing Committee has received 386 applications from various sectors such as public agencies, private companies, research entities and individuals. Submitted applications have provided many new and feasible solutions to address a wide range of problems and some of them have proved to bring significant practical benefits. The ideas have expressed the desire of authors to bring change in different areas from public administration, public services, to production and sales by innovative and creative solutions.

In order to judge the applications, the Organizing Committee had established 17 review committees that consist of experts and professionals in different fields. The committees then judged the applications based on some factors such as innovativity, feasibility and the ability to solve critical issues in the province. There were 42 wining ideas chosen by the juries, including six first prizes, six second prizes, 14 third prizes and 16 consolation prizes.

At the end of the ceremony, the second Science and Technology Idea Contest of the 2016-2017 round was launched by the director Mai Thanh Quang.
