On June 22nd, at the Center Science and Technology Information and Statistics of, a Seminar on "The TPP - Opportunities, challenges and impact on agriculture in Vietnam" was held. More than 80 participants attended the workshop, including agricultural cooperatives’ managers, owners of large agricultural farms and senior officers from Farmer’s Union in communes and districts in Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Dr. Nguyen Van Sang, General Director of Evergood Consultant and Logistics Corporation (Evergood C.L.C), was the main speaker.
After joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Vietnam’s products will have the opportunity to access to a large market with nearly 800 million people and contributing over 40% of the world GDP. It is considered a great opportunity for many Vietnam’s agricultural products currently exported to members of the TPP. However, the TPP agreement has also brought significant challenges for Vietnam’s agricultural sector since many agricultural products will face stiff competition from other TPP’s member countries.
The seminar aimed at introducing farmers to a general overview of the international economic integration of Vietnam, the opportunities and challenges as well as impact of TPP on agriculture in Vietnam, especially on crop sector, livestock sector and agricultural products in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
At the seminar, farmers were also exchanged information and answered questions related to the export of pork and other agricultural products in Ba Ria – Vung Tau when Vietnam joins the TPP.
