On July 22^nd, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province held an advisory Council to select organizations and individuals to implement the social science and humanities project, named "Excavate, research and propose conservation solutions for the White stone ring Fortress archaeological site (Vong thanh da trang) in Xuyen Moc district”. Dr. Bui Chi Hoang - Institute of Social Sciences was selected to implement the project.

On July 22^nd, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province held an advisory Council to select organizations and individuals to implement the social science and humanities project, named "Excavate, research and propose conservation solutions for the White stone ring Fortress archaeological site (Vong thanh da trang) in Xuyen Moc district”. Dr. Bui Chi Hoang - Institute of Social Sciences was selected to implement the project.

The project is set to study the following: excavating and surveying the overall situation of the archaeological site including clarify scale; excavating its inside area to determine its distribution characteristics, cultural features and age; Surveying cultural ties of the fortress in the local historical context; Researching and recommending conservation measures and propose scientific evidences to promote the site to a provincial and national historical place; Collecting excavated artifacts and restored some of them.

According to the project leader, the White stone ring Fortress monument is the best preserved ancient site which can be identified with naked eyes, in comparing with other known monuments in the South such as Phuoc Tu Citadel of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Bien Hoa Citadel and Tuy Hoa Citadel of Dong Nai, Gia Dinh Citadel of Ho Chi Minh… These monuments have been heavily destroyed or well buried underground and can not be observed clearly as the White stone ring Fortress. The survey and excavation as scientific research is critical to fully recognize its cultural and historical importance to the formation and development of not only Ba Ria – Vung Tau province but the South of Viet Nam as well.

The advisory Council agreed on the importance of the research in providing scientific evidences and legal basis for restoration, protection and promotion of heritage values of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. The research was projected to be completed in 18 months.
