A ceremony to celebrate the fifth Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18) was held in Hanoi, on May 17, at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS).

The ceremony was attended by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh and Chairman of the Economic Committee of the NA Vu Hong Thanh.

In his speech at the ceremony, VASS President Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan said that, over the past 65 years of development, the academy has conducted a number of important studies to offer policy recommendations to the Party and government, especially in the fields of socio-economy, culture, politics, and national defence-security.

NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan urged the VASS to fulfil its role as an important social science consultant to the Party and government, as well as exert further efforts to promote the development of Vietnam’s social sciences, thereby contributing to the human intellectual wealth and bringing Vietnam’s science sector on a par with other foreign countries.

The academy was also requested to streamline its apparatus, adopt advanced governance mechanisms to attract talents and expand its international cooperation.

In addition, it was also asked to intensify its studies on social scientific issues in all fields of society to better advise the Party Central Committee, Politburo and Secretariat on building Party documents, resolutions and decrees.
