NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made that statement at the 30th Diplomatic Conference in Ha Noi on August 16.

She asked for promoting coordination between diplomatic agencies to tackle diplomatic issues as well as improve the multi-lateral diplomacy, regarding it as a crucial strategy in comprehensive renovation, extensive international integration, protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity and upgrading of the nation’s status.

It is necessary to encourage international partners to back Viet Nam to win a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 phase and make preparations for the Chair of ASEAN by 2020.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NA Committee for External Affairs need to enhance consultancy and supervision works as well as support ministries, agencies and localities in preparing contents related to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)and the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), she proposed.

The NA Chairwoman supposed that the diplomatic activities of the NA has upheld its role as a crucial diplomatic channel, making contributions to successfully launching the Party and State’s diplomatic guidelines and maintaining a peaceful and sustainable environment for the nation’ development process and upgrading the status of the nation in the world.

Viet Nam has established bilateral relationship at parliamentary diplomatic level with 140 nations, said Ms. Ngan, adding that the Vietnamese NA welcomed more than 60 parliament delegations visiting Viet Nam and sent 40 delegations to visit and work overseas.

The NA has actively proposed and made imprints at crucial agendas at global and regional forums, especially successfully organizing the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU 132) in 2015 and 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in 2018.

Nearly 50 legal documents and resolutions were approved, including those related to diplomatic works.
