On October 19, 2021, the Department of Science and Technology held an Advisory Council to evaluate and accept the results of the project "Piloting the application of building an early warning and lightning prevention system at the beach of Vung Tau city" by Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Institute of Geophysics is the director, and Science and Technology Information and Application Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is the agency in charge of implementation. Mr. Nguyen Cong Danh - Director of Department of Science and Technology is the Chairman of the Council.

It is known that in the past time, many lightning strikes have been recorded in tourist areas in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Some constructions have lightning protection systems that do not comply with current regulations such as committees, schools, resorts, and hotels. It is very necessary to propose solutions to prevent lightning, to warn of lightning to ensure the safety of tourists not to be affected by the harmful effects of lightning, to preserve the tourist image of the locality.

With this urgency, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria Vung Tau province has implemented a pilot project "Piloting the application of building early warning and lightning prevention systems at the beach Vung Tau city" from 2019 to 2021. One of the project’s goals is to establish an early lightning warning system for the beach area of ​​Vung Tau City, specifically based on the monitoring network of electrical signals during thunderstorms and determination lightning location. Other goal is to propose a model of lightning early warning suitable for the locality. Through the project, there will be effective lightning protection solutions for the beach at area of ​​Vung Tau city.

On behalf of the unit in charge of implementation, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh briefly reported on the implementation process and achieved results of the project, specifically:

+  Established a network of monitoring stations for positioning and early warning of lightning including thunderstorms including 4 stations in Vung Tau city. The stations have observed the parameters of thunderstorm activity.

 + Built a lightning warning process for the Back Beach area, Vung Tau City with 3 levels of warning states

 + Built 10 lightning protection models for the Back Beach of Vung Tau City using the latest technologies in the field of lightning protection.

 + Surveyed lightning protection in Vung Tau city at several locations. The results show that the direct lightning protection system in many places has not been installed. In some places, the use of early emission lightning rods is ineffective and dangerous. People still lack knowledge about lightning protection.

 + Conducted propaganda on lightning prevention for the people including organizing seminars, distributing leaflets, making propaganda boards on lightning prevention for people and managers.

The project met the requirements, however, it was necessary to complete and edit some contents according to the Council's comments.
