On the morning of May 18, 2022, the Department of Science and Technology of BR-VT province held a workshop on "Digital transformation for small and medium enterprises in the context of the fourth industrial revolution". Attending the workshop, there were Mr. Vuong Duc Tuan - Deputy Director, National Agency for Southern Affairs (Ministry of Science and Technology); Mr. Nguyen Cong Danh - Director of Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; together with representatives of leaders of departments, agencies, institutes, schools, experts, scientists, associations, businesses inside and outside the province.

The workshop is the main activity of the series of events to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18). The workshop aimed to introduce an overview of digital transformation, the importance of applying digital transformation to production and business, life and the digital transformation roadmap at enterprises to adapt in the new situation. At the same time, the workshop will connect enterprises with scientists and experts to solve the difficulties and problems of enterprises on related issues.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Cong Danh - Director of the Department of Science and Technology said that under the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation is an inevitable trend, a matter of survival for the world, with countries, organizations, businesses and consumers around the world, especially in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Up to now, digital transformation has become a mandatory fact for businesses to develop and avoid falling behind. This can be seen through the fact that more and more businesses are implementing digital transformation and considering the value of enterprise data.

Digital transformation in enterprises can be understood as the process of changing old and traditional models into digital enterprises based on new technology applications, such as big data, IoT, cloud computing, etc. There are many goals such as increasing market speed and competitive position, promoting revenue growth, increasing labor productivity, expanding the ability to attract and retain customers.

Digital transformation helps businesses make the most of the working capacity of employees in the company. At the same time, it helps businesses improve their competitiveness with other businesses by optimizing administration, costs, profits, interaction with customers, customers’ care and service policies,

At the workshop, the delegates listened to the presentations selected from 10 reports submitted to the Organizing Committee of the relevant scientists and managers. The content of these presentations affirmed that digital transformation is an inevitable trend of small and medium enterprises. They also clarified the contents of digital transformation of enterprises as well as the benefits of digital transformation and the difficulties and barriers in implementing digital transformation such as: “Challenges and solutions to implement Digital Transformation in some enterprises”; “Exchanging orientations for small and medium enterprises in the province to implement digital transformation”; “Policies and plans to support the development of innovation startup ecosystem in BR-VT province in 2022”; “Digital transformation - the driving force for economic recovery and development”; “Risk management in digital transformation for small and medium enterprises”; “Platform to support digital transformation for small and medium enterprises” etc.
