Council for acceptance of the topic "Investigation of the current status of valuable medicinal plants in BR-VT province as a basis for management, use, conservation and sustainable development"

On June 29, the Department of Science and Technology held a Science and Technology Council to accept the subject "Investigation of the current status of valuable medicinal plants in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province as a basis for management, use and conservation and sustainable development”. Dr. Tran Thi Lien is in charge of this subject . Attending the Council was Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh - Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology, chairman of the council.

The purpose of the study is to assess the current status and potential of medicinal plant resources in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (focusing on 03 districts and towns: Phu My town, Xuyen Moc district, and Con Dao district) and to propose solutions for conservation, development and sustainable exploitation management. The specific objective is to investigate and build data on essential medicinal plant species distributed in some districts of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. In addition, the subject evaluates the current status, growth, development, exploitation and use of key medicinal plant and propose a plan for conservation, development and sustainable exploitation and use of promising medicinal plant species in the main distribution areas of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

During the research period from 2019 to now, the research team has determined that there are many species of medicinal plants in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

At the same time, the project has also built a map with 552 distribution coordinates of 272 types of medicinal plants that are assessed as rare, typical, central and capable of exploitation, of which 27 species are located in Vietnam Red Book. It is proposed that 20 strong medicinal plants of BR-VT province can develop cultivation, ..

With the achieved results, the Council has agreed to accept the topic. However, it is necessary to edit and complete the topic according to the comments of the council members.
