At the meeting, Mr.Taniguchi discussed with MOST Minister about international and regional cooperation as well as its coordination mechanism to help an establishment of nuclear safety infrastructure for the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam. In this statement, he emphasized that it is very important for Vietnam to distinguish the mission and legal personality between the authority body in charge of radiation protection and nuclear safety with the organisations for development and implementation of nuclear energy in order to meet the growth purposes and avoid overlaps as well as misunderstanding in the working procedure. On behalf of IAEA, he also expressed his favour in support of Vietnam in charge of human resource training, development, infrastructure construction, enhancing emergency response and nuclear safety, etc.,

MOST Minister highly appreciated IAEA for their great support to Vietnam and also wished to cooperate with IAEA in implementation of atomic energy for peaceful purpose as well as safe and sustainable development.

At the same time, Mr. Taniguchi paid a working visit to Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) and had a meeting with Dr. Ngo Dang Nhan - General Director and VARANS key staffs. Both sides exchanged and shared their experiences in the field of radiation and nuclear safety management.
