Discussion about cooperation VARANS - IRSN in 2010

On March 1st, 2010 at the headquarters of Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS), Dr. Ngo Dang Nhan – VARANS Director General chaired the working day with Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) experts.

Participants from VARANS are Deputy Director General (DDG) Dang Thanh Luong, DDG Le Quang Hiep and relevant staff. IRSN delegation includes Mr. Scott de Martinville - Head the International Relations Department and Mr. Vincent Koundy – International cooperation Manager South-East Asia, China and India.

DDG Dang Thanh Luong introduced the outstanding activities of VARANS in the recent years. He said the significant results from the cooperation with IAEA, USA, Japan, Australia and especially EC greatly contribute to the State management in radiation and nuclear safety.

                  

IRSN experts presented European Nuclear Safety Training and Tutoring Institute, IRSN’s Simulator, ASTEC code – Application for VVER, review of VVER safety files carried out by IRSN/GRS (for Bulgaria).

Two parties discussed about the VARANS/IRSN programme: setting up of a joint VARANS/IRSN working group, IRSN assistance for VARANS tasks relating to the first Vietnamese nuclear power plant, training plan for VARANS staff in the short and long term, tasks to be proposed for the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the INSC cooperation project. Mr. Scott de Martinville emphasized that it’s necessary to increase the independence of the regulatory body and establish a Technical Support Organization (TSO) in Vietnam in the field of nuclear power.
