On May 20th, 2010, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Department of Science & Technology organized scientific Board to accept project “Enlarging lightning-resistant model in Xuyen Moc and Dat Do districts”, headed by Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh and implemented by Science & Technology Advance Application Center.
The purpose of the project is to install 100 lightning-resistant systems according to demands of inhabitants and at public places such as kindergartens, houses of culture, and to socialize lightning-resistant systems in Ba Ria –
After two years, research group has implemented contents as follows:
- Surveying 200 houses of inhabitants, measuring apparent resistance at 100 regional places, analyzing figures of thunderstorm at selected places;
- Designing, executing, measuring and inspecting 100 systems (51 lightning-resistant systems at Xuyen Moc District and 49 systems at Dat Do District) under allowable safety level. Straight lightning-resistant system uses lightning-receiving needle system to secure the whole building. For each type of building, vertical lightning-receiving needle or net is used to be either independent or on building;
- Carrying out 10 training classes to improve lightning-resistant awareness of inhabitants. Delivering 10,000 flyers “Instructions to lightning-resistant for people”;
The Board highly evaluates the results of project which give high social effectiveness, and applicable to Xuyen Moc and Dat Do Districts where lightning accidents often happen in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province. Based on these results, lightning-resistant regulations and standards will be built in the Province. The project is evaluated good by the Board.
