The agreement was reached at a meeting between Việt Nam’s Minister of Information and Communications Lê Doãn Hợp and Malaysian Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Soseph Salang, in Kuala Lumpur on July 15.

At the meeting, Mr. Hợp said that Việt Nam wants to share information as well as learn from Malaysia’s experiences in managing online games and pre-paid mobile phone packages as well as discuss the use of a common telecoms infrastructure.

Việt Nam intends to become strong in information technology (IT), said Mr. Hợp while praising the investments that Malaysian IT and telecoms businesses have injected into in Viêt Nam.

Mr. Hợp also informed Salang of the six main goals that Việt Nam wants to reach in the IT sector, including developing its human resources, software, IT infrastructure, e-government and especially encouraging strong communication groups.

Mr. Salang expressed the hope both ministries will increase sharing their experiences of state management, encourage and create better conditions for businesses from both countries to meet and seek out cooperative opportunities in the production of telecommunications equipment and the provision of telecoms services.

In the past Việt Nam has sent numerous officials to Malaysia to learn about developing public services, IT, software and information security. The country also provides Việt Nam with several telecoms and IT scholarships each year./.
