Ministry of Transport approved relocation of Vung Tau airport

The Ministry of Transport of Vietnam announced the approval of Vung Tau airport’s relocation to facilitate the planning of Vung Tau city development and expansion. The Ministry also informed that it would send a written report on this issue to the Prime Minister.

The Vung Tau Airport has a runway length of 1,800m, is managed and operated helicopter flights serving for oil and gas exploration and exploitation by the Southern Service Flight Company - under the High Command of Air Defense and Air Forces.

According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister on 08 January 2009, the Vung Tau airport will be developed into an airfield by 2020 to exploit the civil and military flight operations.

Previously, the provincial People’s Committee proposed the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of National Defense for permission to relocate the Vung Tau Airport to Go Gang with an aim of facilitating the exploitation of flight operations, and ensuring the development of Vung Tau City’s urban spatial planning, since in the next time, the construction of buildings will catch the flight clearance regulation. To serve the relocation of the airport, the province planned a nearly 300ha land area in Go Gang and built the bridges, roads connecting National Road 51 to Go Gang
