Vietnam - Russian Federation promote the implementation of cooperation agreement in atomic energy field

In the morning of January 08, 2013, in Hanoi Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien had a colloquial meeting with the mission from Energy Commission of Russia’s State Duma led by Mr. Levchenko S.I. – Vice Chairman of the Commission, President of Russia - Vietnam Parliamentary Group paid a visit and worked in Vietnam.

The purpose of the visit to Vietnam was to promote the implementation of cooperation agreements reached in fields of building the nuclear energy infrastructure and modernizing Vietnam’s fuel – energy complex.

In the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien informed the mission of the implementation status of the nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuận; that Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) decided to establish and approve the location of building the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology in Lam Dong in order to contribute to research and training in energy field...

Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien affirmed that Vietnam has implemented in a serious and carefully way all tasks for the nuclear power development program. Currently, MOST is reviewing some issues in Law on Atomic Energy to be appropriate with international laws. At the same time, MOST has also formulated necessary legal and regulatory documents for the nuclear power program and determined to fulfill the nuclear power development for peaceful purposes. Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien expressed his hope to continue receiving more support and assistance from the Commission, the State Duma as well as the Government of Russian Federation during the construction and operation of the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam.

Mr. Levchenko S.I. thanked the Deputy Minister for spending his time on meeting, highly appreciated Vietnam’s activities during the nuclear power development and shared experience in formulating the legal framework as well as communication to the public during the implementation process of the nuclear power project. Mr. Levchenko expressed his opinion that the Energy Commission of the State Duma would actively support Vietnam with the nuclear power development, firstly supporting Vietnam to training human resource as well as visit nuclear units in Russian Federation.
