Opening the ASEAN Information Portal on Intellectual Property

Intellectual property is an important tool for the social and economic development. Each nation has paid significant attention to the development of its Intellectual Property system. However, due to special features of the territory in intellectual property as well the intangibility of objects subjected to intellectual property, efforts made by each nation are only successfully if intellectual property rights are protected in foreign countries. Within joint efforts in order to develop the intellectual property system of the ASEAN region, the ASEAN information portal on intellectual property has been established and deployed to provide information on the World Intellectual Property Day of April 26, 2013.

The event of opening the ASEAN information portal has had important meaning for the development of the intellectual property system of the region as well as of each member nation. The ASEAN information portal on intellectual property provides information of issues relating to intellectual property of the ASEAN region as well as that of each member nation towards the ASEAN Economic Community 2015. In the home page of the ASEAN information portal on intellectual property, remarkable activities on intellectual property in the region will be introduced. Key topics in the ASEAN information portal on intellectual property consist of ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property (AWGIPC); intellectual property activities in the region; statistic data on intellectual property; important information source on intellectual property (legal and regulatory documents, legal precedents on intellectual property, registration procedures…); and international cooperation. In addition, the ASEAN information portal on intellectual property is also the forum to link professional agencies of ASEAN member countries, to provide tools for searching information on objects subject to intellectual property of countries in the region and other topics. The variety of the ASEAN information portal on intellectual property promises to be the useful information source for individuals, organizations inside and outside the ASEAN in their activities.
