Currently, metal scrap
facilities are not equipped with necessary equipment to detect radioactive
sources. Therefore increasing awareness and training in radioactive source
detecting skill is critical to ensure radiation safety in these facilities.
With this purpose, the Center for Scientific and Technological progress of Ba
Ria – Vung Tau province held a training for locals in Long Dien district in
collaboration with the Economic and Infrastructure Division of Long Dien
District People’s Committee. Local government officers and scrap facility
owners learned about how to identifying radioactive sources, preventative
measures, how to response when radioactive sources are identified and how to
support and coordinate with government agencies in management of radiation and
nuclear safety. During the training, many questions and concerns related to
radiation safety was addressed by trainers.
